Countdown to Nominations Deadline

October 22, 2015

2015 Young Professional Winner, Murray Kerr, with host Rachel Riley and award sponsor, Gareth Williams of Nalco Champion

With less than 6 weeks to go until nominations close for the 2016 awards, we speak to this year’s Young Professional winner, Murray Kerr about his experience and what winning meant to him.

Leaving school at 15, Murray joined the Royal Navy before going on to study several technical HNDs and achieving a Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

After 5 years, Murray left the Royal Navy to become a trainee subsea engineer, later taking up numerous engineering roles with major operators and service providers.

In late 2011, Murray remortgaged his home to set up his own subsea engineering company, SengS, and in the first 4 months made a net profit of £150,000. At the time of the award ceremony, SengS employed 17 staff with a turnover of over £2 million.

A strong candidate for our Young Professional award, Murray scooped the prize this year and has seen real benefits since the win.

“The Offshore Achievement Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the oil and gas industry and we felt, if we were nominated, this would raise our profile among our fellow peers.
“Going on to win the OAA has given us recognition for all the hard work we have undertaken over the last few years and has raised our profile significantly within the industry.”
“The new financial year has seen us secure over £1.2m in workscopes and we are continuing to develop our services, especially our rental division and international presence, over the coming months.”

If you are aged 35 or under and working in the offshore industry, why not nominate yourself for our Young Professional Award? For full entry criteria and more information, visit our nominations page or contact us.
