From the garage to greatness...

January 2018

Each year the Innovator category brings exciting technologies to the fore, as well as some companies making their first foray into the world of the OAAs.

Silixa is one of these companies and we're delighted to welcome them on board as a 2018 finalist! From humble beginnings in a garage in London, Silixa has grown over the past decade to become a specialist service company operating globally in the oil & gas and environmental monitoring sectors.

The company's Carina® Sensing System, borne out of Silixa’s most complex and ambitious development projects since the release of the original iDAS™ in 2009, effectively turns an entire well into an array of 'digital ears', making it possible to perform high accuracy repeat seismic on demand without interrupting production. A worthy competitor for this year's Innovator Award.

Gina Euridike Elesztos of Silixa explains how it feels to be nominated and what drives Silixa to succeed in innovation.

Congratulations, and welcome to the OAAs! Why was it important for Silixa to enter the Offshore Achievement Awards?

"SPE is seen as the key organization for the promotion of technology development in the industry. To be recognized by such an esteemed organization is a validation of our hard work, and recognition of our success in delivering industry leading solutions. We would like to thank the award sponsors and congratulate all entrants and nominees."

How does it feel to be nominated?

"Silixa is delighted to be shortlisted for the Innovator Award for developing and commercializing the Carina® Sensing System.

"The Innovator Award shortlisting is a validation of the hard work of our extraordinary team as well as a recognition of our successful journey. We hope to win, but most certainly being nominated for the award is already a big honor."

Innovation is clearly a driving force behind Silixa and the technology you create. How do you think innovation is best encouraged within companies, and within the industry in general?

"Innovation is best encouraged by open-mindedness and a collaborative environment. At Silixa we leverage deep-rooted expertise; our concept of “self” is built around core competencies, rather than core products and services. Our culture is to challenge ingrained industry beliefs, redefine the limits of possible and be the leaders in what we do. This allows us to continually extend the repertoire of new commercial and operational benefits we can offer to our customers."

And, what is the most difficult element of creating and developing new products and systems?

"Identifying key challenges in the market and managing customer expectations are the most important elements of product development. Understanding why we are developing a new product ensures a very clear focus."
