Servelec Controls believes that remote operations is the key to reducing OPEX, improving safety and increasing efficiency. And our judges believe in them, shortlisting the company in the Innovator category at this year's Offshore Achievement Awards.
Servelec Controls' remote operations solution involves removing redundant equipment and commissioning integrated systems that minimise the need to deploy interventions should a fault occur.
We spoke to Sales Director, Chris Stones about the company's nomination, and how they would encourage others to innovate.
Congratulations on making the Innovator shortlist! How does it feel to be recognised for your remote operations solution?
"Clearly we are very proud to be recognized by the OAA for our contributions to the UKCS. Innovation is an evolving process. Constant investment and effort is required to ensure that we remain at the forefront of technology, which we can in-turn utilize to the benefit of the industries we serve. Recognition of that effort is incredibly positive."
This determination to stay at the forefront must come with its challenges. What do you find to be the most difficult element of creating and developing new products and systems?
"In any established brownfield industry it can prove challenging to convince users to evaluate new technology or solutions against more proven alternatives. However there has been a noticeable increase in appetite to investigate and trial innovative solutions in recent years as we all strive to extend the life and viability of the UKCS."
How do you think the industry, and Servelec Controls, can meet this increased demand for innovation?
"The drivers definitely differ depending on where you sit in the supply chain. However the continual encouragement and acceptance of youth into the industry is a must. Servelec Controls benefits enormously from our associations with regional educational facilities and many of our placement and graduate engineers are incredibly creative and innovative thinkers – nurturing this is an obligation we should all share for the future of our industry."
And with your innovative solution, and the team behind it, being nominated, what do you think is the main benefit of putting forward your technologies for awards such as these?
"Regardless of who ultimately wins the OAA Innovation Award, we are all winners. Shining the spotlight on innovators serving the UKCS is key to the promotion and acceptance of new ideas and initiatives and great credit must be given to the event organizers in this instance."
