Taking UK developed technology to a global audience

February 2018

What does it take for a small, technology focussed company to achieve remarkable export success? ROMAR International believes in a combination of unique technology, impeccable levels of service quality and successful strategy implementation.

In the past 12 months, ROMAR has exported its swarf handling systems to Australia, Qatar, Canada, Malaysia, Holland and the Caribbean. But that is by no means the end of their journey. We spoke to Business Development Manager, Craig Martin to find out more about why export strategy is so vital to ROMAR's business success and how it feels to be nominated for the Export Achievement Award at this year's OAAs.

Our OAA judges saw a great strength in your export strategy. How important is this strategy to the business?

"Export strategy is of huge importance to ROMAR, we consider it to be vital to the continued growth of our company. The UK Oil & Gas industry is a great source of new technology that can reduce operator cost. We have a tremendous opportunity to successfully export these benefits to operators around the world. However, each market is different and our strategy, product mix, and supply mechanism etc. must be constantly re-assessed to succeed."

In re-assessing the company's export goals over the past few years, what are the elements that have needed to be considered?

"With development of new technologies we have constantly focused on new markets such as our Packer Management systems in deep water South America or the Gulf of Mexico and our Swarf Handling systems in Europe, North America and the Far East. During the recent industry downturn, by re-focusing on highly active markets such as the Middle East we have continued to grow the company, despite the reduction in worldwide rig count."

How does it feel to be nominated for the Export Achievement Award and what do you see as the main benefits of being nominated for an award such as this?

"We are delighted to be nominated and very grateful for the positive encouragement offered by the SPE.

"This nomination is a testament to the hard work of ROMAR team members on projects across the world. It’s a great opportunity to raise the profile of our company – and to publicise the many UK technologies available to reduce operator cost worldwide."
