Final Week for Entries - Making Your Submission Stand Out

November 2016

Entries close on Wednesday for this year's Offshore Achievement Awards, and our judges are gearing up to score the entries for 2017.

If you're thinking of entering, or just polishing off your submission, take a look at OAA judge, Elaine Maslin's tips on what she thinks makes, or breaks, an award entry.

What are the key points you look for in a good award entry?

"Companies that offer something different, a breath of fresh air in what can be a conservative and habit-driven industry. Tangible information about what the company has done to deserve the award is also essential – i.e. facts, figures and examples, illustrating how they’ve gone beyond the standard to be exceptional."

What don’t you like seeing in an award entry?

"Marketing language, claims that are not supported by evidence, and bad English!"

What makes a winning entry stand out?

"A forward thinking or outward looking firm with a clear strategy towards a market they understand, and a clear ability to execute those plans."

Any final advice you would give to those entering?

"Challenge the norm and break the mould! The oil and gas industry has too many bad habits. More firms need to show there are other ways of doing things."

Entries from UK-registered companies operating within the renewables, or the oil and gas industry, are open until Wednesday 30 November. Finalists will be announced mid January, with the winners announced at a black tie ceremony at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday 23 March 2017.
