OAA Judge Spotlight: Dr Andrew Jaffrey, Sentinel Subsea Ltd

September 2018

We are proud to have a dedicated judging committee who bring their wealth of experience to their role as judge.

Dr Andrew Jaffrey will sit on this distinguished panel for the 2019 awards and has some advice for those considering entering.

"From my previous experience of judging the Emerging Technology, Collaboration and Innovator categories for the OAA, I have some simple advice.
"Read and follow the submission instructions; particularly the restrictions on word count, content and attachments. Last year there were a number of applications which were not eligible as the fundamental criteria (such as country of development and maturity of commercialization) had not been met. It is also important that there is a clear presentation of the timeline associated with a development to demonstrate eligibility for the year in question.
"In general, we are looking for solutions that are genuinely different and which aim to address real needs in the industry. Better mousetraps have their place, but new thinking is highly valued.
"Finally, this is not a marketing exercise so copying and pasting submission text from brochures is a good way to get marked down."

Nominations are open for the 2019 Offshore Achievement Awards and will close on 16 November 2018. Visit our nominations page for full criteria and nomination forms.
